Download

You can download and save to a temporary directory

• SDT 6.8, standard version FTP HTTP 31MB (SDT and FEMLink with source code)
• SDT 6.8 demo version FTP HTTP 34 MB (SDT and FEMLink without restriction but no source code).

Generate a licence request

• To generate a license request. Within MATLAB, change your current directory to wherever you downloaded the distribution, and run the distribution file

    cd /tmp % or wherever you downloaded sdt68_dis or sdt68d_dis
    sdt68_dis

  This will open the license request building GUI shown below. Fill in the appropriate values and mail the result to license@sdtools.com so that a license key can be generated for you. To generate a license key, we require your professional coordinates and that of your reseller if any.
  
  
  
  

Install the distribution

• If you want to preserve a previous copy of the SDT rename the $matlabroot/toolbox/sdt directory.
  
• Start MATLAB, as a user who has write permission on the matlabroot directory (Administrator for Windows, root for UNIX systems).
• If you do not have write permission, see the server procedure to install on another directory.
  
• Within MATLAB, change your current directory to wherever you downloaded the distribution, and run the distribution file

    cd /tmp % or wherever you downloaded sdt68_dis or sdt68d_dis
    % target='my_dir_location' % you may define the target here
    SDT_license_key='10-00000-00000-00000-00000-00000'
    sdt68_dis

• Select what you want to install, check that the target directories are correct.
  
  
  
  
  
• When ready press the Install button. Install extracts the proper files, checks the configuration of your installation of the SDT and edits toolbox/local/pathdef.m file so that the SDT becomes included in your default matlabpath.

Re-install the distribution

• If you want to preserve a previous copy of the SDT rename the $matlabroot/toolbox/sdt directory or define at different target below
  
• Start MATLAB, as a user who has write permission on the matlabroot directory (Administrator for Windows, root for UNIX systems).
  
• Within MATLAB, change your current directory to wherever you downloaded the distribution, and run the distribution file

    sdt68_dis

Multiple SDT or MATLAB installations

• If you have multiple installations (various versions of SDT or a single SDT for multiple MATLAB), you should use a dynamic path generation rather than the default editing of pathdef.m. This is in particular necessary with multiple MATLAB versions since the path order changes. In your startup.m (see doc startup in MATLAB) simply place the lines

   pw0=pwd; cd('my_sdt_location'); % the SDT you want to use
   % cd(fullfile(matlabroot,'toolbox','sdt')) % is default
   sdtcheck('path'); 
   cd(pw0); clear pw0

• To create multiple SDT installations, install using

    SDT_license_key=sdtdef('key'); % use your previous key
    sdtcheck('PathNone'); % clean paths of unused SDT
    cd /tmp % or wherever you downloaded sdt*_dis
    target='my_dir_location' % define the new target
    %target=fullfile(matlabroot,'toolbox','my_other_sdt');
    sdt68_dis
    rehash toolboxreset % force clean the toolbox cache

  and use the step above to switch between installations

Dealing with write permission problems

If you do not have write permission for the server where the target MATLAB is installed

• Install the toolbox in your account (in Matlab run the following commands)

   cd /tmp % or wherever you downloaded sdt68_dis or sdt68d_dis
   target='xxx' % select your target directory 
   % Then paste the license key sent to you by e-mail
   SDT_license_key='10-00000-00000-00000-00000-00000'
   sdt68_dis

• You can then use SDT by adding

   pw0=pwd;
   cd('target') % Replate target by the correct location
   sdtcheck('path');cd(pw0);clear pw0

  to your startup.m file.
• To make the toolbox available to all users, ask your administrator to copy the target directory to $MATLABROOT/toolbox/sdt directory. On UNIX this is done with

   # edit these lines to appropriate values ####
   setenv MATLABROOT /usr/local/matlab 
   setenv SDT ~/sdt
  
   cp -R $SDT $MATLABROOT/toolbox/sdt
   chmod -R a+rX $MATLABROOT/toolbox/sdt
   chmod -R a+x  $MATLABROOT/toolbox/sdt/*.mex*

• To edit the default MATLAB path without adding a startup.m, run sdtcheck('path') then open the File:Set path ... menu and click Save. This edits the pathdef.m which, in a normal installation, is performed using sdtcheck('check') which requires write access.
